An eastern European Danube River cruise gives travelers the opportunity to visit many fascinating towns and sites that were once almost inaccessible to those of us who live in Western Europe or North America. The Danube River flows east from Germany through Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Serbia, and river ships such as the Viking River Cruises' Viking Neptune sail between the Black Sea and cities and towns on the Danube River.
Our Eastern European Odyssey itinerary started in Bucharest, Romania and sailed up the Danube, ending in Nuremberg, Germany 16 days later. This cruise offers a tantalizing one-day look at the well-known cities of Bucharest, Belgrade, Budapest, and Vienna--all cities where you could easily spend a few days or a week. However, the Danube passes by many other charming towns that were unknown to me a few weeks before, but who now provide some delightful memories.
