Port Stanley - Capital City of the Falkland Islands - Cruise Ship Port of Call

Port Stanley in the Falklands

Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands is one of the smallest and most remote capitals in the world.

Our third and last stop in the Falklands was at Port Stanley, the capital. We almost did not get to go ashore on East Falkland. The wind increased overnight while we were sailing through the Falklands, and by daylight the waves and wind were too high for us to go into the narrow harbor at Stanley, much less ashore. The Captain sailed along the coastline for most of the day, waiting for the winds to subside. We finally got ashore in the late afternoon and enjoyed a couple of hours shopping, visiting the Catheral or museum, or just hanging out in one of the British-themed bars.
