The overnight nonstop 10-hour flight from Atlanta arrives in Buenos Aires early in the morning. I used Ricardo De Franco of Defrantur Argentina tours for airport and cruise transfers and for our city tour, day at the Estancia, overnight to Iguazu Falls, and tango show tickets. He was an excellent guide with very reasonable rates, and he immediately won our favor with his suggestion for changing money at the airport. The main money-changing kiosk, which is well-marked and in the middle of the Buenos Aires International Airport, is definitely NOT the best place to change money. The first time we were there, they were giving 1.65 pesos per dollar. The Bank of Argentina, located in a small corner directly behind the kiosk, was giving 1.93. Quite a difference!

We stayted at the Buenos Aires Four Seasons Hotel our first time in the city. Buenos Aires has many wonderful hotels, including all of the well-known chains from North America. The Four Seasons was beautiful, but we did not think the location was as good as some of the other luxury hotels such as the Alvear Palace, which was in Recoleta. However, we were within walking distance of several nice restaurants, including La Cabana steakhouse at Rodriguez Pena 1967. This famous restaurant was gorgeous, with three floors for dining. Be sure to explore the entire restaurant when you dine there. We had a superb meal with wine for less than $60 for the two of us.

The second time we visited Buenos Aires, we stayed at the Buenos Aires Marriott Plaza Hotel, which is near the Plaza San Martin on Calle Florida, the famous pedestrian shopping street. This classic hotel is not as elegant (nor as expensive) as the Four Seasons, but the prime location is excellent, the rooms are clean, and the bathrooms are large.

Let's start our tour of Buenos Aires at its political center--Plaza de Mayo.
