After a final glorious day at sea, the Silver Whisper docked in Valparaiso in the early morning, having sailed 626 nautical miles since leaving Puerto Montt. Disembarkation went very smoothly. Our flight home from Santiago did not leave until late that evening, so we booked a full-day tour through the ship that provided a good mixture of things to do to keep us occupied all day before dropping us at the airport at about 6:00 pm. The drive from the port at Valparaiso to the Santiago Airport is 68 miles, so cruise passengers need to arrange for a transfer from the ship or book a taxi.
With our luggage safely stowed on the bus, we left Valparaiso and drove along the road towards Santiago. Soon we began to see some of the many vineyards of the Casablanca Valley. The bus left the motorway, and we slowly drove to the Vina Mar Winery. Vina Mar was launched in 2002 and is part of the VSPT wine group that has about 12 percent of Chile's market share. The main house on the property was gorgeous, and although we all enjoyed the tour of the wine making process, I think we enjoyed the wine tasting more.
Leaving the winery, the bus soon arrived at the Puro Caballo Ranch.
