Sailing into Rio de Janeiro in the early morning is an unforgettable sight. It's one of my favorite sail away ports in the world. As the sun begins to shine on this jewel of a city, the view is breathtaking. We visited Rio de Janeiro for three days on the Celebrity Infinity during the annual Carnaval festivities before Lent, and saw many of the sites we have all heard so much about, including the Statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corovado Mountain, Tijuca Forest, Sugarloaf Mountain, and the Rio beaches at Copacabana and Ipanema. A highlight of our time in Rio was the Carnaval Samba Parade.
Rio de Janeiro is amazing to look at, and any fears of rampant crime were quelled by the heightened security for Carnaval. The Infinity had many shore excursions, including those to all the famous sites of Rio we visited. We took advantage of the ship's excursions because of the risk of crime, but others used taxis or toured on their own with no problems.
