The Statue of Christ the Redeemer sitting atop Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro was selected one of the new seven wonders of the world in July 2007. The statue is certainly impressive. The 100-foot statue on a 25-foot base was raised in 1931 and is made of reinforced concrete and covered with pale green mosaic tiles.

It is interesting to note that a smaller replica of this statue of Christ overlooks the Tagus River and Lisbon, Portugal.
