I really enjoyed the Jungle Nature Trek shore excursion from the Seven Seas Mariner on our Amazon River cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Manaus, Brazil. We boarded a riverboat at the pier and rode 45 minutes up the Rio Negro to the trailhead. Our small group then hiked for about an hour and a half with guides who were qualified at the military Center for Intensive Guerrilla War in Rain Forest.
This excellent excursion involved walking over rough trails, but we stopped often for demonstrations of survival skills. It was very interesting to be in the jungle and see and hear about the various flora and fauna, as well as learn some important survival skills. We drank water from a water vine, tried some natural gum, and Ronnie (ever the adventurous one) ate a coconut grub (i.e. worm). He was the only one in our group to eat the grub, which he said tasted much like coconut. Since we were hiking in the daytime, the mostly nocturnal wild animals hid from us in the trees and thick brush.
