The Silversea Silver Spirit was launched in December 2009 and christened in Fort Lauderdale on January 21, 2010. Her inaugural voyage was 91 days from Fort Lauderdale around the tip of South America, north to Los Angeles, and back through the Panama Canal to New York. She saw much of the coastal Americas in her first few months, and I sailed on her from Santiago to Acapulco.
Silversea Cruises provided these photos of the ship taken as she arrived in Fort Lauderdale for the first time, during her sea trials, and artist's renderings of the ship.
The 36,000-ton, 540-guest Silver Spirit features the largest suites in the fleet. The onboard decor has a 1930s Art Deco ambiance in the public spaces, highlights of which include an indoor/outdoor spa measuring 8,300 square feet, three whirlpools, performances in the Theatre, a choice of six dining venues including Seishin, a Japanese restaurant, and the Stars Supper Club, featuring live music, dancing and nightclub-style entertainment.
