Twiggy named the Seabourn Sojourn on the evening of June 4 at a black tie gala celebration in the River Thames at Canary Wharf near London. Pamela Conover, president and CEO of The Yachts of Seabourn, said the company wanted a godmother with the same style and elegance as the company's new ship, and they believed that Twiggy was the perfect choice. She certainly looks terrific and has led an amazing life.
Although the gala event started in the late afternoon on the outdoor pool deck of the Seabourn Sojourn and continued into the late evening, the actual naming ceremony was one of the shortest I've attended--only 10 minutes. There wasn't much pomp and circumstance, and Ms. Conover made a few remarks and introduced Captain Buer before introducing Twiggy. The British icon said she was delighted to be the godmother, recited the traditional naming words, and pushed a button that released the bottle of champagne from the top deck of the ship. The bottle flew down a zip line and smashed against the ship. We all laughed and applauded, and the party continued.
Let's take a closer look at the Seabourn Sojourn christening event.
