Even though I did not do any excursions, I still enjoyed myself at the ports. I snorkeled for two hours for a bargain of $8.50 US per person (and it was worth it because I even saw a real live baraccuda withing 10 metres of me)while the excursion price for a cruise-organized excursion was around $50.00 US per person. The Mexican people were willing to barter and I managaed to purchase many souvenirs for a cheap price. That was my play with my spending.
It was wonderful that I could wander the ship with freedom and do so much. One thing that pleased me was the cleanliness of the ship. The men's toilets were absolutely CLEAN, not one speck of dust to be found and the room was fragranced with potpourri, all thanks to the fantastic staff for keeping the ship clean. Yet, I regret not doing something a little more thankful for the staff other than gratuities and personally thanking them in the corridor. So, if you travel on a cruise, always remember to thank ALL service people and crew for their dedication in providing luxury to you. After all, it is their living and without an international service staff, the cruise would be less enjoyable.
One major thing that I would change would be the curfew. Teens age 12 and above should be able to wander the ship at all times, whether they want to explore or to chat with others. In addition, the dessert buffet should be held an hour or two earlier as I felt too tired to eat and was starving since dinner. Another thing that I disliked was the fact that adults labeled us as immature, disruptive, and distracting brutes. My friends and I took that personally because we were only trying to have fun and behave like kids on vacation. After all, how often do I have the chance to fool around in a glass elevator?
Taking a cruise was truly an unforgettable experience as I needed a break from my ordinary life in Rochester, NY. I also view it as a treat to entering high school as it was worth all the money. I received much benefit form it as I was able to visit foreign countries, meet other teenagers from all over, and to reward myself for being such a well-rounded person. My personal recommendation is to take a cruise if you feel you need it because it will change your life forever.
