Cruise Ship: Viking Century Sky
Cruise Dates: June 26 - June 30, 2007
Cruise Destination: Yangtze River in China
Guest Contributors: John and Peggy Page
Our Yangtze River Cruise, provided by Viking River Cruises, began in Shanghai with 2 nights at the Shangri-La Hotel and tours of that city. On 26 June we flew (Shanghai Air) to Yichang and toured the Three Gorges Dam Project before boarding Viking Century Sky for 5 days cruise up the Yangtze River.
Viking Century Sky cabins are large with comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, private balcony, and service on the ship was comparable to most ocean cruise ships. The buffet style (Chinese & American) food was well prepared and the dining room offered open seating. At the end of the river cruise, in Chongqing, (largest city in the world) we toured the city of 31 million population before boarding our Air China flight to Xian. We stayed one night there and toured the Terra Cotta Warriors museum prior to flying (Eastern China) to Beijing.
We stayed three nights in the Beijing Westin Hotel and toured the Great Wall of China, Ming Dynasty Tombs, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, and saw the Peking Opera. The food and shows were fantastic and this experience in China was the greatest vacation of our lives. The many Chinese people that we encountered were always friendly and polite. We strongly recommend this Yangtze River Cruise for anyone that has not visited China.
