The Ruby Princess christening ceremony was a gala event, with many of the guests attired in "ruby red" for the romance-themed ceremony. In accordance with the romance theme, Trista and Ryan Sutter of The Bachelorette were chosen as the Ruby Princess godparents. Numerous cruise line dignitaries and hundreds of travel agents, journalists, and other VIPs watched as Trista and Ryan broke the traditional bottle of champagne to mark the launch of the Ruby Princess.
The official naming of the Ruby Princess was followed by the wedding of Kip Hickman and Danielle Vurpillat. The California couple not only had Trista and Ryan as attendants, but the Love Boat captain himself, Gavin MacLeod, gave away the bride. Ten finalist couples from the "Romance on the Ruby" contest also enjoyed the event.
The The 3,080-passenger Ruby Princess is a sister ship to the Emerald Princess. Her first winter season she will sail from Ft. Lauderdale to the Caribbean followed by Mediterranean cruises this summer.
