Helsinki, Finland

Baltic Cruise Port of Call

By , About.com Guide

Helsinki has a different look than many other Baltic capitals. Since Helsinki was not settled until the mid-18th century, it does not have a medieval past like Stockholm and Oslo. Downtown Helsinki has many pastel colored buildings much like some Russian cities, and its skyline is dominated by two towering churches. Helsinki also has a beautiful harbor, and sailing into and out of the city is marvelous.

I visited Helsinki for a day on the small luxury cruise ship the Silversea Silver Cloud and took these pictures while exploring the city on foot. Let's look at some of the sights of Helsinki.
