Alesund, Norway is found on the northwest coast of Norway midway between Bergen and Trondheim. Cruise ships sailing the Norwegian fjords often stopover in Alesund on their way to or from Geiranger.
Alesund has a wonderful look and feel--most of the buildings are a mixture of Art Nouveau and traditional styles. This look is the result of the rebuilding of Alesund after a devastating fire in 1904 destroyed over 850 structures. The views of the city, surrounding mountains, and fjords from the summit of Mount Askla are not to be missed.
Cruise ships docking in Alesund feature walking tours of the town, along with bus and ferry rides to nearby islands and fjords.
