Cruise West passengers on the Spirit of Discovery ride jet boats from Clarkston to Kirby Creek Lodge, which is about 80 miles upstream. The ride is not rough and is lots of fun for everyone. About 2 hours into the day, the jet boats stop at peaceful Cache Creek Ranch at the entrance to the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. After a snack, the ride continues for another 40+ miles (about two hours) to Kirby Ranch, where a late lunch is served. The ride back downstream goes much quicker, but those riding in the back of the jet boats might get wet from the spray.
The jet boats pass through rugged canyon scenery, and the contrast between the rolling river and the sheer cliffs towering overhead is breathtaking. Every bend of the river promises a new sight, whether it be wildlife, fishermen, or a historic mine.
