We are experienced with several cruises within the past several years. We went on this cruise with high expectations after having remarkable cruises in the past. First thing I can tell you is -- Do Not Sail With NCL! The ship was filthy dirty, and very few crew were observed doing basic cleaning tasks. For example, the glass in all of the glass elevators (all windows actually) were dirty. Wooden hand rails were sticky and dirty. Carpeted floors were not vacuumed. These are basic areas that should have been impeccable but were instead were remarkably dirty. Our room was not cleaned well and turned down on only one night out of seven. The mini-bar was finally stocked on the next to the last day. Steward never did clean towels on one day.
We were highly offended with mandatory tipping which was automatically attached to your bill. No wonder there is no incentive to clean the ship. This was a sentiment that was consistent with several other passengers. Several stated they would not complain because would do no good. They were right. Our comments and complaints fell on deft ears. Most of the staff were distant, non-friendly and several were rude. The one exception was the rear main dining room with a buffet style. Staff were friendly and many actually said hello without prompting. We now refer to freestyle cruising as a freeloading cash hungry style of cruising. Everytime you turned around they were draining you for additional over-priced drinks, over-priced excursions, and outrageous photo prices. Again, Don't Sail With NCL. You're going to be disappointed and no one will listen to your complaints!
