We found the MSC Lirica to be just what you pay for -- an inexpensive vacation for you and your family. We knew that there were not going to be a lot of bells and whistles, and we were right. The pools are small, however there were a lot of pool loungers available as compared to some other cruises where there are hardly any!
The food was hit or miss, sometimes really good and other things really bad. The pasta was fantastic when they had the special pasta event. The boat was very rocky and some of our cabinet drawers kept opening and shutting. This was the most rough cruise we've been on.
The main reason I'm writing this review is to warn everyone of the dangers of having your daughters hair braided in the Caribbean (St. Maarten for us specifically). We finally gave in to one island girl and had one little braid put in. Well, before we knew it she whipped out a comb and combed the section of hair she was braiding! I was worried the whole time that she was going to get lice or worse ringworm of the scalp. My husband actually said not to worry, that the sun would kill anything. Well, we were horrified when she ended up getting lice! Thankfully not the ringworm which is very difficult to get rid of.
Since then, I have been on different sites trying to cope with the lice removal (not for the faint of heart) and some people have written about the dangers of the Caribbean braiding, specifically. I want everyone to learn from my experience so this never happens again. My poor little 6 year old daughter has been through countless hours of lice combing, treatments and missed school. Please tell and warn all your friends of this too! I wish I could tell the whole world of this!
