The American Safari Cruises' Safari Quest anchored one night at Puerto El Gato in the Sea of Cortez. Since the island was covered with colorful rocks and surrounded by a beautiful brilliant blue sea, a small group of us decided to go ashore early the next morning and watch the sunrise from the beach. We boarded the skiff in the dark, and slipped silently ashore.
Our sleepy group from the Safari Quest walked the beach of Puerto El Gato and finally perched on some of the smooth rocks to watch the show--and what a show it was! The sun rose over the Sea of Cortez, and lit up the red rocks of Puerto El Gato. The colors of the sky, sea, and island changed minute by minute. It was an amazing sight, and something I will always remember.
