La Paz, Mexico - Sea of Cortez
Charming Baja Mexican Town Has Beautiful Boardwalk and Harbor Area

By , About.com Guide

La Paz, Mexico is on the Baja about 100 miles north of Cabo San Lucas on the Sea of Cortez. The city of almost 300,000 was once a sleepy Mexican town, but is a large tourist city today. La Paz has non-stop flights from Los Angeles, making it an easy getaway from the USA.

I visited La Paz before sailing on a terrific Sea of Cortez cruise with American Safari Cruises' Safari Quest. Other small ship cruise lines such as Cruise West and Lindblad also include La Paz on Sea of Cortez cruises, and some larger ships like Holland America include La Paz on Sea of Cortez or Baja cruises.

We stayed for three nights at the Hotel Los Arcos, which is located on the picturesque "malecon", the waterfront street along the harbor. We did two days of fishing, and enjoyed browsing the shops, dining outside in the evening, and strolling the lovely boardwalk that stretches for miles along the bay.

After a few days in La Paz, it was easy to see why so many tourists love to visit this city on the Baja.
