The Odeon of Herodes is an ancient theater on the southern slope of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. Although it was built in 161 AD, the restored Odeon of Herodes is still used for concerts today. Herodes Atticus built the Odeon ("small theater" in Greek) in memory of his wife, Aspasia Annia Regilla. It originally had a wooden roof and seated about 5,000.

Ancient rumors were that Herodes Atticus had his wife killed and built the theater to either deflect suspicion or lessen his guilt.

As you can see in this photo, the Acropolis provides a wonderful view of Athens. As you walk around the rocky surface, be sure to take time to gaze out over the old city.

The next photo shows more of the seating at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
