The Homenaje a los Corsarios, a statue to pay homage to pirates, is erected right on Ibiza's harbour, facing the port.
Pirates played an important role on Ibiza from the 18th Century onwards, as they defended the island from enemy attacks by sea. The 1925 monument was paid for by the people of Ibiza. Many maps and Ibiza guides start a walking tour of Ibiza town at the obelisk.
