The cuisine on the Grand Circle Small Ship Cruises M/S Rossia Russian river ship is about as expected--good variety with some touches of excellence. All meals are open seating, and portion sizes are right-sized for multi-course meals. Breakfast is a buffet with all the standard fare, served for about two hours each morning. Lunch and dinner are set times, usually about noon for lunch and 7:00 pm for dinner.
Lunch has a good salad bar, accompanied by a a choice of either hot or cold soup, two main courses, and dessert. Dinner includes a glass of red or white wine, appetizer, soup, choice of two main courses, and choice of dessert or cheese tray. Dinners were often lengthy, but no one seemed to mind since evening activities were limited.
Some dinners had a Russian theme, and we had two "Captain's Dinners" where some (but not all) of the passengers dressed up a little. Most passengers dressed casual for all meals our on cruise, although I didn't see any shorts or t-shirts at dinner.
