Our shore excursion in Cadiz started with a guided bus tour of the city, followed by a drive to Jerez (pronounced Hereth) through the wine country of southern Spain. It was absolutely beautiful, with thousands of acres of rolling vineyards and numerous wineries with millions of gallons of sherry.

Our first stop was at the John Harvey Winery, famous for its Harvey's Bristol Cream Sherry. We toured the winery and learned about the making of sherry and the connection between the very British John Harvey and the very Spanish sherry. I really enjoyed hearing about the wine-making process and tasting the different types of sherry in such a lovely setting.

Our second stop was at the Royal School Equestrian Show, where we all had front row seats. The gorgeous Andalusian horses and their riders put on quite a "dancing" show. We were very impressed, and probably would have even been more so if we had ever tried to train a horse!

After the horse show, we walked a few blocks to a traditional Spanish restaurant with a bullfighting theme and museum pieces. Everyone loved the paella and atmosphere of the restaurant, with all the posters, costumes, and photos. Some of the matadors must have been very tiny if they wore those outfits!

After our delicious lunch, it was back to the ship. Not surprisingly, I noticed several of my fellow passengers sleeping on the way back to Cadiz. Must have been the food, the wine, and the excitement of the day! Next, the Crystal Symphony was off to Lisbon.
