Disney Dream - Inaugural Christening Celebration

It may have taken a little Disney pixie dust, but the Port Canaveral January day was clear, sunny, and a perfect temperature for the Disney Dream christening celebration. As our Disney bus transfer from Disney World approached the port, we could see the launching pads and buildings at the Kennedy Space Center in the distance. I couldn't help but think how many of the same terms like "launch" and "ships" are used for two very different forms of transportation--cruise ships and space ships.

The star of the show, the Disney Dream, was quietly anchored a short distance from the dock, which was a little curious, since we would be boarding after the christening event. However, as the show evolved, the reasoning for this position became evident.

The show was less than an hour, but was packed with dozens of Disney and Pixar characters, singers, dancers, fireworks, military bands, and (of course) Mickey Mouse himself. The details and precision were amazing. Mickey and Walt Disney Company President and CEO Bob Iger shared the emcee duties. Academy award winner Jennifer Hudson, who was an entertainer on the Disney Wonder cruise ship in 2003 before she became famous on American Idol, was an excellent choice to be the godmother of the Disney Dream. After all, she's living her own "dream", and Disney helped her on the way.
