Queen Victoria - Cunard Line's Newest Cruise Liner

Queen Victoria Ship Debuts in December 2007

From Linda Garrison, About.com

The Queen Victoria cruise ship is Cunard Line's newest ocean liner, and she was named by HRH the Duchess of Cornwall. The Queen Victoria joins her two sister ships, the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Elizabeth 2 until the Queen Elizabeth 2 is retired in November 2008.

Construction on the Queen Victoria ship was begun in April 2005 at Fincantieri Shipyards in Italy. The 90,000-ton ship will carry 2000 passengers in 990 staterooms. She is 964.5 feet long, 106 feet wide, and has a draft of almost 26 feet.

Soon after her launch, the Queen Victoria will embark on a world cruise in January 2008. The 105-day world cruise will take Cunard's newest ship to ports in North America, Australia, Asia, and Europe. After the world cruise, Queen Victoria will spend the rest of her first year sailing in Europe, with European itineraries in both northern Europe and the Mediterranean.

These construction photos were provided by Cunard and demonstrate some of the elegant lines and features of the newest Queen.
