In 2009, the cruise lines launched at least 20 new ships -- 10 ocean-going cruise ships and 10 riverboats. The ten new cruise ships range in size from the significantly refurbished Clelia II with 100 passengers to the brand new Oasis of the Seas, the largest ship ever built, with 5400 passengers!

At least ten new riverboats began sailing the rivers of Europe, China, SE Asia, and Egypt in 2009. These river ships are owned or operated by river cruise companies AMAWaterways, Avalon Waterways, Tauck, Uniworld, Victoria Cruises, and Viking River Cruises.
