The New7Wonders Foundation conducted a New7Wonders of Nature competition. The natural wonders of the world list began as 261 qualified national and multinational nominees from 222 countries. Many of these world-class sites are accessible via cruise ship or cruise tour extension.

The New7Wonders of Nature is a follow-up popularity contest to the New7Wonders of the World, which were announced in July 2007. These seven man-made sites, selected from 21 finalists and representing global heritage throughout history, were selected after over 100 million votes were cast online.

The About.com Travel Channel guides have more information on many of these amazing natural sites. Use our channel as a research tool to learn more about the nominees and to help select your favorite seven natural wonders of the world. Some of our travel channel guides have compiled their own favorite natural wonders, which are also included in the list of links below.

Personally, I was surprised to see some of my USA favorites excluded from the list like Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska, the Florida Everglades, Yellowstone National Park, and the Napali coast of Kauai. Other About.com Travel Guides also had favorites that didn't make the list of the top 261. What sites do you think should have been included? Do you have personal favorites among the 261?
