Asbach, a German wine and liquor company, has had its products from Rüdesheim, Germany on the market since 1892. Many of the three million visitors to Rudesheim on the Rhine River each year enjoy tasting the original Rudesheimer coffee, which is made with Asbach Uralt, one of the most popular brandies in Germany.

Yield: 1 large cup of coffee; 1 serving

Ingredients:

  • 3 sugar cubes
  • 1 ounce Asbach Uralt brandy
  • 1 cup of brewed, hot black coffee
  • whipped cream
  • sugar flavored with vanilla
  • dark chocolate flakes

Preparation:

Whip the cream, sweeten with sugar and vanilla, and set aside.

Place three sugar cubes in a coffee cup, preferably an original Rudesheim coffee cup. Add 1 ounce (4 centiliters) of well-warmed Asbach Uralt brandy and set alight with a long match. The liquor can be warmed in a microwave for about 1 minute.

Stir using a long spoon to dissolve the sugar and allow it to burn for about 1 minute. Fill the cup with hot coffee to about 2 centimeters (3/4 inch) under the rim.

Top with whipped cream sweetened with vanilla sugar and sprinkle with dark chocolate flakes.
