Food is an important part of any cruise.  Do your homework before you book the cruise and use common sense to avoid food pathogens.

The Allure of the Seas has 26 diverse dining options spread throughout the world's largest cruise ship.

The AMAWaterways Amalegro is a lovely European river ship, the cuisine ranged from very good to excellent, and the venues positively add to the river experience.

River ships offer terrific views of the countryside when you are dining, and the Avalon Panorama has both a nice indoor restaurant and an outdoor covered spot on the upper deck.

My mom and I both agreed that the Avalon Tranquility had some of the best food we'd ever experienced on a river ship. The chef's dishes and presentation were excellent.

The mid-sized Azamara Journey has four nice dining venues. Although the ship isn't large, the variety and quality of the dishes served are excellent.

Although the Carnival Fantasy doesn't have the specialty restaurants found on newer ships, she does have two nice dining rooms and a buffet, with just enough variety for fun cruises to the Bahamas and Caribbean.

The Nieuw Amsterdam of Holland America has several delightful dining options, including one of my favorites at sea, Tamarind.

Is the food good and diverse on a small expedition ship like the Wilderness Discoverer of InnerSea Discoveries? You bet it is!

Everyone knows that the French know good food, and the food of the French cruise ship Le Boreal will not disappoint!

The Norwegian Epic has a dining venue to suit every taste. Many are included in the base fare, but the specialty restaurants are worth the extra fee if you are looking for something very special.

Each of the seven dining venues on the Silver Spirit provides an excellent dining experience. I especially love the "hot rocks" outdoor casual restaurant and the Seishin Asian restaurant. Both are different than anything I've seen at sea.

The Mist Cove only carries 24 passengers, and they all dine each meal in the windowed-fantail restaurant, with great views and even better food.

The River Beatrice has beautiful dining venues, and the food quality, presentation, and diversity lives up to its surroundings.

The S.S. Antoinette decor looks much like an elegant French chateau, and her dining venues are just as gorgeous. As with other Uniworld ships, the cuisine is also excellent.

The Viking Prestige is a beautiful river vessel, and it has two dining options--the main dining room and the Aquavit Lounge.

The Aegean Odyssey of Voyages to Antiquity has a main indoor restaurant and a buffet with both indoor and outdoor seating. Eating outdoors on a Mediterranean cruise is one of my favorite dining experiences, and the Aegean Odyssey has a nice outdoor spot that is perfect for this.

The International Kitchen offers two types of canal cruises. The first features cooking lessons with a French-trained chef. The second is a movable feast offering a chance to sample the cuisine of the region.  Both are on a small barge cruising French canals and sound wonderful!  (And I don't like to cook!)
