Costa Deliziosa Christening in Dubai

New Costa Ship Was First to Be Officially Named in an Arab City

By , About.com Guide

Costa Cruises launched its newest ship, the Costa Deliziosa, at the Dubai Cruise Terminal in Dubai, UAE on February 23, 2010. The 92,600-ton, 2,826-passenger Costa Deliziosa is a sister ship to the Costa Luminosa and was designed to appeal to Costa's most upscale customers.

The spectacular Costa Deliziosa christening event was staged in collaboration between Costa and the DTCM (Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce), and was the first to be held in an Arab city. The inaugural show's program emphasized both Italian and Arab culture and included music, dancing, Arabian horses, and even a Bedouin camp. Prior to the show, senior officials held an international press conference and Dubai dignitaries toured the ship.

Of course, the event also included all the traditional aspects of a ship christening--official speeches, the transfer of the ship's bell, and the godmother cutting a ribbon to break a bottle against the hull of the ship.
