Costa Cruises' Joint Christening - Costa Pacifica and Costa Luminosa

Two Costa Ships Named Simultaneously in Festive Genoa Ceremony

By , About.com Guide

The Costa Pacifica and Costa Luminosa were officially christened on June 5, 2009 at an exciting nighttime ceremony in Genoa, Italy.

The festivities started in the late afternoon with a performance by the Frecce Tricolori National Aerobatic Team, which wowed the audience with its aerial feats. A cocktail party and gala dinner designed by two Michelin chefs followed. After dinner, 4000 passengers, dignitaries, and special guests gathered in the amphitheater built for the dual christening ceremony and musical show. The show featured terrific lighting effects and performances. The climax of the evening was the simultaneous christening by the two godmothers, Olympic and world fencing champion Vanentina Vezzali for the Costa Luminosoa and Israeli singing star Noa for the Costa Pacifica. As they cut the ribbons, bottles of Prosecco smashed against the bows and millions of pieces of colored confetti swirled in the winds. It was quite a memorable event for all!
