Celebrity Constellation Cruise Review
Cruise to the Baltics and Northern Europe on the Celebrity Constellation

From Derek Long, for About.com

Cruise Line: Celebrity Cruises
Cruise Ship: Celebrity Constellation
Cruise Destination: Baltics and Northern Europe
Cruise Dates: June 3 - June 17, 2006
Guest Contributor: Derek Long

Constellation is crewed by a very multi-national group but every single one worked as a team to make the passengers tour of the Baltic effortless. The Stateroom on 3 deck outboard was a little smaller than Holland America, but the port visits and activities onboard meant one only slept in there. The cabin stewards replaced a towel every time it was used and the ice bucket was continously freshly filled.

Of course food outlets abounded, and the service for main dinner and quality of food/variety could not be faulted throughout the 14 days. Entertainment was very varied in the theatre and included some good classical concerts with quality European artists. Shore excursions were expensive and we did our own thing either by foot or public transport or taxi (except in St Petersburg were we used Red October).

During the voyage we had a tour behind the scenes in the Galley and Bridge. The standards of food cleanliness were almost excessive - but a welcome sight. Constellation at 91,000 tons had every facility from Gyms, Spas, Treatment Rooms to Computer Suites, Cinemas etc. Certainly there was no need to be idle but there did remain many corners in the public rooms or deck spaces to curl up with a good book. One downside is that the shipboard management and Celebrity ashore seemed to be rather off-hand about passenger confidentiality. Our cabin TV kept displaying other passengers account information - thus we had knowledge of their spending habits - although we did not know their cabins. Reported to Security and in writing to the Hotel Director and subsequently to Celebrity we had no reply as to whether they knew about the fault. So I apologies to the Negrete's, Buzov's and Green's for seeing that they all spent more than we did!

The actual tour programme is excellent, a day at sea to settle down after departing Dover and again another before one disembarks. Inbetween-time a grand variation in cultures and scenery. Aside from the issue of confidentiality the cruise was first class and memorable.
