I cruised on the Carnival Destiny on May 28, 2006 with another family member and our vacation was awful. The best part of the cruise was the ports. We traveled to St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.; Roseau, Dominica(beautiful with natural resources), Barbados, and Aruba.

Our problems started at check in. The room we had requested and been assigned to had to be changed. When I asked why, the attendent told me they were doing construction on the ship, but that sounded like anything but the truth. We checked the Purser's desk once on board and they told us the room was not suited for two people. We later found out that large masses of first-time cruisers leaving San Juan, Puerto Rico had booked half the ship.

We also had asked if the new room was of the same value as what we had. It was not on the same side of the ship; however, at this late date and time I guess we didn't have much choice. Also, after waiting for hours, we had to catch the elevator down and retrieve our own luggage. The room they moved us to was nice but it was a liitle dusty and later triggered my allergies making me ill. Our next problem was noisy next door neighbors. These people were loud, stayed awake all night long, and slammed doors, I don't think they ever slept.

The food was ok, although after eating the first meal, I became a little ill along with my brother. They sent us soup and crackers, and after a day or so what ever it was passed. The ship was over crowded with the masses of groups from San Juan so our on board experince was limited more or less to our cabin. I found some peace in the library and the steam room. The pools and other areas were always crowded. The entertainment was good, but I have seen better on another Carnival ship.

Our room became hot. We reported it, they tried to fix it, but it was never really comfortable. My last problem was the damaging of my personal hand bag in the security x-ray machine. I had returned from a port visit, and my expensive Louis Vuitton bag's purse straps were caught in the machine and pulled off. I told the attendant, and he sent me to the front desk and they proved they did not care. I was told to repair with glue and one man offered me a safety pin. The room attendants were very nice and worked, but some of the people who dressed in the white uniforms had no people skills and were not friendly at all. When I returned home I wrote to the coporate office. They have no people skills, and most of all they do care about the passengers, but they will take your money happy or not. I will never (along with all family members and friends) set foot on another Carnival or Princess Cruise as long as I live. No, do not travel on the Destiny, it's not a good deal.
