Carnival Imagination Cruise Review - Cancun and Key West on the Imagination

Substitution of Calica for Cancun Was Not What Cooki Expected

From Cooki, for About.com

Cruise Line: Carnival Cruises
Cruise Ship: Imagination
Cruise Destination: Key West/Cancun
Cruise Dates: June 29, 2006
Guest Contributor: Cooki

We enjoyed our cruise for the most part, however, we believe that travel agencies (whether on land or on the Internet) are purposely misleading consumers about exactly where they sail and where they do not.

We thought we were sailing into Cancun, since the Internet site listed it that way. However, 30 min. into the cruise, an annoucement was made that we would be sailing into "Calica," a port an hour south of Cancun. There is nothing there. Just a bathroom and a line of buses waiting to take the tourists on excursions. You can see Cancun, if you want to pay a taxi to drive an hour north. Also, our excursion was a total rip off...we paid $200 for nothing but disappointment, and Carnival has heard it all before. They made up a port and made up excursions since Cancun and Conzumel were hit by hurricanes last year. Don't be fooled. No one leaves Calica saying, "I can't wait to return someday."
