As a first time cruiser I was worried prior to sailing due to mixed reviews. All I can say is that I had a great cruise on the Celebration and have no complaints. The ship may be old, but it was spotless. The crew cleans all day and night. My group sailed from Jacksonville to Key West, then Bahamas for a five day trip. Jaxport was clean, friendly and fast. We were on the ship at no time at all. Our stateroom was fine, the beds comfortable and I heard a bit of outside noise, but no different when one stays at a hotel. The room steward was very friendly. We saw him about three to four times a day as he asked us if everything was okay, and cleaned the bathroom, provided fresh towels as soon as any were used. He made darling little towel animals each night. All of the stewards in the corridor were friendly and greeted everyone with a smile.
We dined in the Horizon dinging room. The atmosphere was elegant, the waiters were awesome and entertaining. The food was excellent. Formal night served Lobster, which was terrific. I've eaten lobster all over the country and this was very good, despite the past complaints I've read on various boards. The deserts were very good as well. I especially liked those served during lunch in the Wheelhouse rest. the were so rich. The Wheelhouse makes great pizza, whenever you want it, by the slice or the whole. They also make a good ceasar salad.
We watched several shows in the Astoria Lounge. The lounge was pretty, had a balcony and lower section and a separate section for the little ones visiting camp carnival. The dancers and singers were great, however the magic act and comedian were average. We also attended the Captains party and had free coctails.
We visited many of the art presentations prior to the auctions and free champagne was served. I am not much of a drinker, but did enjoy these, and there were enough "free drink" opportunities to have a lovely time without being costly.
The casino rang out about 3-4 jackpots each night on the slot machines. I won a bit, then donated my winnings back to other machines. Several members in my group won also.
I didn't really go to the dance clubs or bars, but having walked past them several times during the night, the people inside seemed to be having a great time. Nightly parties were provided on the lido deck along with a food buffet. The crew led the passangers in the cha cha slide and other dances. I didn't bring my children on this trip, but having watched those onboard have so much fun, I've already planned a cruise next year with them.
I would highly recommend this cruise for anyone wanting to have fun, especially families. It was inexpensive, the food and service was great and the ship was very nice. The entire crew from the purser to the stewards were smiling and helpful.
I'd say there was a lot to celebrate, I had a great time.
