I felt the Carnival experience was not so great. We went on Royal Caribbean in 2004 and paid a quarter of the price for a 5-day cruise. The Royal Caribbean ship had 100% better food and shows. The buffet on the Carnival Legend always had the same sort of food. Nothing like spagetti & meatballs or meatloaf or American food. It was mostly Chinese food or some sort of duck, lamb. I do not like rice or mushrooms or goofy sauces all over my food.

I think Carnival should get a better buffet at the Unicorn Cafe, since it is the only place to eat during the day. Yes, you can get pizza that's doughy or a cheeseburger, but if I wanted that everyday I would have stayed home, and it would of been a lot cheaper.

Also, we stopped at San Juan, Puerto Rico, what a wasted stop. We were there the longest and nothing to do but walk around the crappy town and see bums and traffic. One nice thing to view were the old war forts, which took 2 hours. They cancelled all shore excursion due to Mothers Day, and only 4 stores were open to shop. Of course they were the ones Carnival requested. The couple we went with agree that this was not worth the money, not even half.

The only good thing was Jun, our dinner waiter. He is the only reason we went to the dining room and ate salad and steak every night. Yes, every night. It was either steak of some sort or Squid, fish, ducklings, or some food you could not pronouce. St. Thomas was beatiful but only on beach for 1 1/2 hours due to time getting there. Totola, don't book an excursion for 80 dollars to go on beach for 2 hours like our friends did. We took a 20 minute taxi for $6.00 round trip back to boat and went to Catamaran's Beach for over 3 1/2 hours. Beautiful, but lawn chair rental was $5.00. Big deal--better than $80.00. The time at ports were not long enough and the 2 1/2 days at sea were tooooo long. If you take a cruise from NY be sure you are at a port in carribean for 2 days at least. St. Thomas and tortola are only a 25 minute drive apart, but you depart St. Thomas at 5:00 p.m. and arrive in Tortola at 7:00 a.m. next day. Just so the boat can open the casino and make more money (they did not pay out till the last day.) Some people claimed they lost 600 and 800 dollars by day 5. It was a 9 day criuse.

The ship is only worried about the money not your presence. Also, on the Carnival Legend, expect a very bumpy ride on the way to Carribean. At least until day 3. The ship is built different and it did not help. You could always tell you were moving even in beatiful weather, unlike the Royal Caribbean Majesty of the Seas, where you never felt anything AT ALL. Thank you.
