The first place we visited was the Estate Whim Plantation Museum, which is a good example of the workings of one of the numerous sugar cane plantations that dotted St. Croix from the 18th through the early 20th century.
Our second stop was at the Cruzan Rum Distillery, where we toured the plant and learned about the process for making St. Croix rum.
Our final stop was at the St. George Village Botanical Garden, which is dedicated to preserving the native plant species of St. Croix and the endangered plant species of the Caribbean.
Many times Caribbean cruise excursions are centered around spectacular beaches and water activities. However, it is always important to learn something about the history, industry, and everyday life of the area. Next time you cruise the Caribbean, think about a tour such as this one. You'll bring back some new knowledge along with your new tan.
