Puerto Rico is a diverse Caribbean island about the size of Connecticut. The island is covered with historical sites, mountains and rain forests, and is circled by mangrove swamps and beautiful beaches. Many cruise ships sailing the eastern Caribbean either embark, disembark, or stopover in San Juan, and the cruise ship pier is conveniently located in the picturesque old town.
Because of the diversity of the island, the variety of things to do in San Juan and Puerto Rico is excellent, ranging from adventure-oriented activities to sightseeing to exciting nightlife. Many cruisers spend their day walking around old town, exploring the old forts and learning about the history of the island. Others go four-wheeling, horseback riding, kayaking in a bio-luminescent bay, or hiking in the beautiful El Yunque Rain Forest. Included with the natural beauty and history of Puerto Rico, San Juan also has some great shopping, casinos, and night life.
