Some Final Thoughts on Cruising the Far East

Last Day on the Silversea Silver Shadow

The next morning in Kobe, the fireboats were out to welcome the Silver Shadow into port. Most everyone was disembarking, and we said our goodbyes. Some of the passengers were going onto Kyoto with a Silversea land extension. Others were traveling to the Osaka Airport for the long flights home to North America, Europe, Australia, or elsewhere in Asia. Mother and I were off for a few days in Tokyo before heading home. We were all rested, rejuvenated, and enriched by our time in China and Japan. Silversea Cruises had provided a wonderful vessel to take us on our voyage of discovery, and we had all embraced the experience, and found new friends and wonderful memories. Thanks to the people of China and Japan for their hospitality and to the Silver Shadow crew for making our voyage so delightful!

Far East Cruises to China and Japan
Asia and the Far East offer many exciting cruise opportunities. Our cruise on the wonderful Silversea Silver Shadow cruised along the coast of China, up the Yangtze River from the East China Sea near Shanghai, and across the East China Sea to Japan. The ultra-luxury cruise line has numerous exciting itineraries that include the Far East and Asia. Other major cruise lines including Radisson Seven Seas Cruises, Princess Cruises, Crystal Cruises, Holland America Line, Star Cruises, and the Cunard Line also have Far East and Asia cruise itineraries.

For those looking for a cruise on the Yangtze River, small ships like the beautiful Viking River Cruises' Viking Century Star sail the Yangtze from Chongqing and also offer cruise tour extensions that include Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Tibet. Victoria Cruises also has six ships sailing the Yangtze between Chongqing and Shanghai on three to nine day cruises.

Sometimes people ask me why I enjoy "going" so much. American Express Travel did a survey of affluent consumers and found that over half of them received the greatest satisfaction from experiences such as travel. Relaxation is a top priority, with 47 percent citing relaxation and freedom from stress as the top reasons for travel. Nearly all (90 percent) agreed that traveling was a desirable way to "break out of the day-to-day routine." Exotic destinations such as China and Japan and luxury ships like the Silversea Silver Shadow will certainly meet these criteria. I'm glad to know that I am in good company. A good memory is worth a lot, and sharing experiences with my mother, husband, or friends is priceless!
