The Amalegro food was very good, with some dishes excellent. Meals are served in the main dining room on the Cello Deck. Breakfast and lunch are mostly buffet style, although both meals have menu offerings. Passengers order from the menu for dinner, and the meal is served course by course. Breakfast is usually served from 7 am to 9 am, with early riser breakfast of pastries and coffee available much earlier. Lunch and dinner are served at an open seating with a set time (usually 7 or 7:30 for dinner).

Our tulip time cruise itinerary included early morning tours each day, so most passengers ate from the buffet or got a freshly-cooked omelet for breakfast. Those who arrived early in the dining room could linger over Eggs Benedict or enjoy a glass of complimentary champagne. Those who wanted just a continental breakfast munched on delicious pastries and coffee in the lounge.

Lunch features a combination of soups, salads, sandwiches, and heavier hot dishes served in the dining room. On our Tulip Time cruise, some passengers ate a light lunch in the lounge, but most of us took the time to enjoy the dining room lunch, mixing the buffet salads with the hot soups and main courses. Desserts were available on the buffet, but many (like me) chose a daily dose of ice cream.

Open seating dinner is served in the main dining room at 7 or 7:30, depending on the daily schedule. The portions are well-sized and well-presented. A variety of appetizers or salads are available, followed by a choice of two soups, and three main courses. One of the main courses is vegetarian, one is fish, and the third is beef, pork, or chicken. The ship takes on fresh fish four times per week, and it was particularly good. Sirloin steak, chicken breast, or a Caesar salad are always available. Red and white wine are complimentary with dinner, as are beer and soft drinks. The wine stewards pour the wine, and it flows freely. One night when the wait staff seemed particularly challenged, we joked at our dinner table that it was easier to get a refill of wine than one of water. My only problem with the dinner was the noise in the dining room. The ceiling is low and made of wood paneling, which doesn't absorb the sound. Therefore, it was very difficult to converse with anyone at the table other than those on either side.

In addition to three meals, the Amalegro has a coffee/cappuccino machine, along with hot tea that is always available. Delicious cookies are usually set out by the coffee machine, and pastries and small sandwiches are served with tea each afternoon. Snacks are also set out each evening about 10:30 for those who like a late night bite.
