Tracy Arm is about 23 miles long, and small cruise ships like the Spirit of Yorktown often wind their way through the narrow waterway to the face of the glacier. Larger ships like the Regent Seven Seas Mariner only go part way into Tracy Arm, but cruise passengers still get a look at Sumdrum Glacier, some spectacular scenery, and the ambiance of a luxury ship.
Icebergs from the Sawyer Glacier float far out into the waters of Tracy Arm. Nearing Sawyer Glacier, the water filled with small ice bergs and reminded me a little of iceberg alley in Antarctica. We only saw a few small pieces of the Sawyer Glacier calve. Lucky for us, we did see the LeConte Glacier near Petersburg calve on another day in Alaska.
