Seward, Alaska - Gateway to the Kenai Fjords National Park

Seward Is Located on Scenic Resurrection Bay and Is Cruise Embarkation Port

By

Seward is 127 miles south of Anchorage and sits at the head of Resurrection Bay. Visitors arrive in Seward via the Seward Highway Scenic Byway, the Alaska Railroad, by air, or cruise ship. Because of its proximity to Anchorage, Alaska cruises often use Seward as an embarkation or disembarkation port.

The 3,022-foot Mount Marathon provides a marvelous backdrop for Seward. Each July 4, athletes run to the summit of Mount Marathon and back in one of the oldest cross country races in the USA. The record is a blistering 43 minutes!

Outdoor activities abound in Seward. Summer visitors to Seward can enjoy fishing, glacier and wildlife cruises, sailing, hiking, kayaking, and flight seeing. In the winter, cross-country skiing and snow machine adventures are popular.

Sailing away from Seward provides a wonderful view of the surrounding snow-capped Kenai Mountains. These photos were taken from the Regent Seven Seas Mariner as we sailed southeast from Seward towards the Hubbard Glacier.
