Juneau, Alaska - Southeast Alaska Inside Passage Cruise

Juneau is the only state capital in the USA that is inaccessible by car. The city of about 30,000 residents is perched on the southeast coast of Alaska on the Inside Passage, and you need a ship or a plane to get to Juneau. With the Mendenhall Glacier nearby, Juneau offers many excursion opportunities for Alaska cruises, and its airport makes the city a good one for cruise ship embarkation or disembarkation.

With several cruise ships visiting the city each day during the busy summer cruise season, the small town seems to burst at the seams.

We stayed overnight in Juneau before embarking on our Cruise West Spirit of Yorktown cruise of Alaska's Inside Passage in 2007. I also visited Juneau in late August 2008 on the Seven Seas Mariner, the day after John McCain selected Governor Sarah Palin for his running mate, so we walked to the Governor's Mansion to check it out.
