We visited the St. Lucia wetlands while the Silversea Silver Wind was docked in Richards Bay, South Africa. This wetlands area was much different than the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, which was also near Richards Bay. The iSimangaliso Wetlands where we rode the tour boats looks much like the marshy intracoastal waterway area around St. Simons and Jekyll Islands of Georgia except it is famous for its numerous crocodiles and hippopotamus. One interesting fact -- hippos kill more people in Africa each year than any other animal. They are quite ferocious, despite their somewhat comical look.
We saw many hippos, crocodiles, and bird species at St. Lucia, and also found time to do some shopping in the market.
