The Pyramids of Giza in Egypt are located on the West Bank of the Nile River next to the Sphinx and just a short ride from Cairo. Photographs lead most people to think the Pyramids of Giza are in the middle of the desert, but civilization has encroached on their location, and the pyramids can be seen from tall buildings such as the Four Seasons at Nile Plaza in Cairo When at the pyramids, you can also see Cairo a short distance away. The Pyramids at Giza are the last survivor of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and they are just as grand and glorious in person as in pictures. As you gaze at these behemoth structures, it is difficult to imagine that they were built over 4000 years ago.
We visited the pyramids at Giza on a pre-cruise extension from the Silversea Silver Whisper before we set sail through the Suez Canal to the Red Sea.
