A cruise of the Greek isles is on most travelers' bucket lists. And, it's no wonder. These picture-perfect, sun-kissed islands are a great place for a cruise vacation, and dozens of cruise ships include Greece on their eastern Mediterranean itineraries. One of these cruise lines is Cypriot-owned Louis Cruises, which has been in the cruise business since the 1970's. This cruise line is not as well-known as those with ports of call in North America, but Louis Cruises' mid-sized ships can be a good choice for those looking for a short (four or five-day), port-intensive cruise of the eastern Mediterranean.

The Louis Cruises' itineraries can be combined into a longer cruise and land tour of Greece and Turkey, and I participated in one that included a land tour of western Turkey from Istanbul to Kusadasi, with stopovers at Izmir, Pergamon, Pamukkale, and Ephesus. The land tour was followed by a four-night cruise on the Louis Cristal from Kusadasi to Istanbul, with ports of call at Patmos, Rhodes, Crete, Santorini, and Athens.

This four-night cruise is a good introduction to several diverse islands, and it has a little of everything--history, culture, shopping, beautiful natural scenery, quaint villages, and two major cities.
