Dockside at Uturoa, Raiatea

The Renaissance R3 was able to dock in Papeete, Tahiti and in Uturoa, Raiatea, removing the need to use tenders.  At both islands, there was a significant level of ongoing construction near the pier.  Workers are building flower-filled parks and kiosk-like huts for vendors.  They should add a lot to the area when completed.

Vendors selling shore excursions all set up shop on the pier in Uturoa, and handicrafts of all  types could be purchased from the small huts near the ship.

Coming into Raiatea in the early morning.  Note how calm the lagoon is.

These photos were made from the balcony of my room.  As you can see, it won't take you long to walk around the city of Uturoa.  The city is an administrative hub, and has many small interesting shops.
