Our expedition cruise on the Hapag-Lloyd Hanseatic sailed south into the Weddell Sea, allowing the passengers to get a close look at Elephant Island from our Zodiacs, and then putting us ashore on Paulet Island to see the Adelie penguin colonies. The Hanseatic then sailed back north through the iceberg alley of the Weddell Sea and around the tip of the Antarctic peninsula (shown as Graham Land in this picture). We visited several islands on the west coast of the peninsula and went ashore on the continent of Antarctica at Paradise Bay.
