Wuxi, China - The Grand Canal

The Grand Canal in Wuxi was filled with barges such as these. Two thousands years ago, Wuxi was called Youxi, which means "there is tin". The tin reserves were depleted by the time of the Han dynasty when the city was renamed Wuxi, which means "there is no tin." Today Wuxi is most famous for the Grand Canal, silk production from its mulberry trees, and its proximity to Lake Tai.
