Three Gorges of the Yangtze in China - Viking Century Star Cruise
The white markers on the hillside of the Lesser Three Gorges demonstrate where the river's shoreline will be in 2009. Although this hillside will be almost covered, some of the deeper gorges will still be evident. Since the water has already started to rise, we had "flat water" cruising on the Daning throughout the Lesser Three Gorges. Even just a few years ago, the largest boats going up the Lesser Three Gorges were those with less than 30 passengers. Those boats often had to sail against fierce currents when going upstream from the Yangtze. Those currents may still be there, but the larger boats sailing up the Daning have no problem navigating them.
